Re: 21. Work todo / issues with the online manual

JIbz, can you explain #12--is that the only one of the "magic" items causing problems, and what is it doing?  I compiled, and it seemed to work okay. Thanks

Re: 21. Work todo / issues with the online manual

Right now the page is giving me a 404 so I can't check it.

Instead of

<object>
<param>
<param>
</object>

it was

<object>

</object>

<param>
<param>

and the chm compiler gave a warning.

Edit: seems I can load the page about half the time and I can't see the problem there now. I am starting to wonder if this site is running on Pierre's pocket calculator .

Re: 21. Work todo / issues with the online manual

Ok, after a little digging around I think I found the problem. This is the html code from node 863:
<p><object type="application/x-oleobject" classid="clsid:1e2a7bd0-dab9-11d0-b93a-00c04fc99f9e"></p>
<param name="Keyword" value="Find" />
<param name="Keyword" value="Search" /></object></p>
As you can see there is an extra </p> tag there at the end of the first line, which throws Firefox off when it saves as html. It thinks the paragraph stops there and closes the open object tag, and the two param tags end up outside. Ie might just ignore it, I can't test that because the server is so unstable right now.

We probably have to be careful when pasting in html in the source edit mode that we do not break the validity of the html.

Thanks.  I see the output is as you say, but I still can't see it in the book page source... I guess it would be safest to have some good source in a text editor, block it with horizontal lines, and edit keywords, and paste only from that.

Re: 21. Work todo / issues with the online manual

That fixed the issue in node 863.

It appeared in nodes 170, 835, and 987 as well, and I tried to fix it there. New version of the chm uploaded.

It is this awful editor that inserts random tags even when you edit in source mode .

 Thanks for the fixes. I may do some experimenting in the test book, until I can figure out how to consistently make it work.

I don't want to cause you more work.  Maybe it has to do with exactly where I'm pasting the text.

There's got a way to tame the beast. Pierre, do you have any hints on how to control this editor?

Re: 21. Work todo / issues with the online manual

Thanks to all. This is great !

Just a suggestion, instead of using an invisible <object> tag, why not use 2 visible ones as follows:
Quote:
This is the page content...

bla bla bla

End of content

--------------------
[See also]
List of nodes, 1 per line, using the node:#### syntax

[Index]
List of keywords, comma separated
This will be much easier to manage, as users will see this info, and keen ones can add relevant info.

This is a good idea. It won't generate a hhk index file unfortunately, but perhaps Jibz could eventually have his script do that from keywords put in this way.
Jibz, does that seem doable eventually?

Depending on to what extent the editor mangles the html, yes that should be doable.
