Armando uses a clever system of tags to handle this situation (in waiting for a SQLNotes proper implementation of tags). Armando, perhaps you want to share with us your system ? BTW Please use a new thread, as this is about the Ecco poll. Pierre (Win XP Pro SP2, Admin, Auto-updates ON, Firefox, Acer TravelMate 660 graphics). |

Another way of looking at this is a preconfigured dropdown list in SN can only have one choice selected by the user, unless I've missed the boat.

I see. you were refering to multiselection in fields dropdown menu (mantis issue 70). I thought you were speaking of items.

That would be really nice, eg in categories, the drop down field,
I would have some items that would qualify for more than one category...

Drop down lists with multiselection enabled would indeed be usefull. It would have many possible applications.

Yes, I do use a general tagging "system" using simple principles/rules that I can apply in many different situations (whatever the application, especially if text can be entered : Word processors, file names, etc.). The principles/rules are simple, but their applications have to be strict for them to work… and all the different combinations and uses can be become fairly complex… That's why I use AHK to help me with the practical use. OK, I'll create a new thread... |

I have to agree with some of the other posters. SQLNotes is progressing very nicely. The missing piece, for me, is the calendar. Once it is implemented I will move from ECCO.
I've been very impressed by the developmental progress being made. It is becoming a wonderful - very functional - application.

In Ecco I have not only a nest of folders such as Team, but also for different projects, for different types of information, ... All of that data can be viewed from grouped views in a very simple way.
I keep the file in an Ecco workgroup, where each team member has access to the public data. Each member can update his data from his personal file which is synchronised to the master file (= my file). Reports are constanly being updated by each member.
On top of that, an external partner receives every day a synchronised copy by mail from the master file with only his related information. He can update his data and send it back via email to be imported again in the master file.
To bad Ecco is obsolete, but SN is growing ...

I'm one who still uses both. I switched over to SN some time ago for one project, but left others on Ecco. In many ways, SN has already surpassed Ecco, but unfortunately its still missing some key functions to make it the complete successor e.g. calendar views, named filters, grid outline formatting, multi-select fields.
Love the work already done. Just wish we could all chip in (or something) & get progress cracking along more. Its such a good app. |
