Hi guys,
Keith wrote: How about you post a page in the wiki with this information, as a work in progress? Maybe call it a our roadmap for covering a lot of the documentation bases.
I sent the following msg to Tom yesterday, but I think I should put it on the forum, too. Yes, I definitely felt the need for some kind of a road map. Keith, did you refer to my post (about the roadmap)?
Here's the msg:
I’ve become really involved with IQ, even if due to my tight schedule my contribution to the project might be limited.
As I mentioned in my post ( in "New web site, new community, new name"), I was thinking of giving some structure to the overall effort of all the guys willing to help IQ achieve excellence. This is my suggestion:
At the present degree of complication and development we could try “the top down” approach. We could work out an outline for organizing all the info. I have already posted my humble attempt at that. We could do the following:
1. First, start a lists for 1st level – main categories/topics. Once we decide there is no reason to put more items into it, we should choose which ones we should keep. I think that it might be better not to put it on a forum because the discussion could take too long, but I don’t really have a strong opinion about that.
2. Then we could proceed to the next level, and repeating the same steps, work out the outline.
3. We could do the same with the fields.
4. Or we could use my outline as a “work in progress” and update it as the need arises.
5. Once we have the outline, we will have a better map of the whole and the plan for our work (we could work by "filling in the gaps" -- in the glossary, instructions, etc -- in a structured way). This would improve the overall understanding and eliminate the chaos and unnecessary repetitive work. It would be also an excellent preliminary work for a future IQ guide/help.
6. You can see that I had also included things related to marketing and such (the business side of IQ, more or less), but I’m not entirely sure it this is the right way to go. I’m just really interested in promoting IQ (I feel I could contribute in that area a little bit),and think that our common effort could bring fruit.
Let me know what you think.
