| New web site, new community, new name |
|
|
Major changes are underway for SQLNotes:
- We're hosting the main web site on Google Sites. 99.99% uptime and fast page loads!
- We're building a rich community web site, based on Drupal:
- Forums
- Blogs
- Glossary
- Documentation
- We've finally settled on a new name: InfoQube. Raise your IQ by putting everything in your cube, your InfoQube

| What will the final version use for documentation--wikispaces, wetpaint, or something new?
Where should any additions to the documentation (wiki) be done right now? |

We're using Wikispaces for now. All contributions (big thanks!) will be transfered to the new platform when the move is eventually done.

I'm re-starting the "ball rolling", having reached the "obsession" stage with this wonderful program
- We've all been talking and/or thinking about writing tutorials, tips, how-to's, etc in the wiki.
- I've put a few small steps in: Under "Community" the "First start here!" and the "Timers", and started up a "Glossary". Please comment. I really like the idea of illustrating pictures.
- My emphasis will be: things I (mostly) understand; things nearly undocumented; "I didn't know that" discoveries;
- I've firefoxed "scrapbooked" this forum, and the donation coder thread, and using it as a reference for things to learn. It's extremely helpful!
- I'm staying out of the "Documentation" area, and only touching the "Community" area.
- The wiki software is pretty easy to learn quickly (honest!)
- However writing stuff does take a lot of time. However I think if we stick to the bite-size chunks, it's much easier. Perhaps one person can write the words, and another can fill in with screenshots.
- Is it a good idea to post something in forum when we change something "substantially" in the forum? And if so, where?
it's probably a good idea to mention the IQ version we used at the time of writing/screenblasting.

great input Keith (and thanks for the ScrapBook idea!).
I'll try to help with the documentation -- and I could provide screenshots if you wish... But the next week will be a crazy one and so I won't be able to comment/give ideas during the nex few days (until Oct 25th).
As you said, using stuff written here and in the DC forum would certainly be useful. |

I’ve thought about how to really get a hold on SQLN/IQ for different purposes: help files, tutorials, marketing, etc. That’s how I have structured my SQLN/IQ data so far (it’s “work in progress”, but I think we should really try to work out some pigeonholes for all the info that we already have and are going to add. ):
Categories (Topics).
- Features.
- Hyperlinking.
- Searching
- Managing IQ
i. Moving
ii. copying grids @items
iii. assigning fields& values
iv. organizing data
- Formatting.
- Synchronizing
i. Between machines
ii. Between databases
- Projects/examples
- Definitions.
- Meta-questions. (Setting up a database, how to best use the features, etc.)
- Other.
- Donations
- Marketing
- Community
- Fun
In each Category I have following fields:
1. Questions.
2. Problems
3. Bugs
4. Instructions: steps, techniques.
5. Descriptions (more general than “Instructions” for marketing/intro)

this is great to see
I'll help if and how I can - feel free to request stuff!
Re where to discuss - how about here for the moment and if we want to work on a specific area maybe a new thread?
we can play it by ear at the mo :-) |

Thanks Jeff, and welcome back.
That registration link is for InfoCube, while this is InfoQube, with a Q (unless I missed something...) Pierre (Win XP Pro SP2, Admin, Auto-updates ON, Firefox, Acer TravelMate 660 graphics). |

Thanks for posting this. This will help keep everybody on track as we progress.
How about you post a page in the wiki with this information, as a work in progress? Maybe call it a our roadmap for covering a lot of the documentation bases.
Also I've put up a test page in the wiki under community, "Revise toolbar icons and text", using a flash output from the program Wink. It's extremely easy to use, and free. Please comment. Personally I like being able to click through tutorials such as this, as fast as I can read, rather than have them timed, or having audio.
