The new web site is near completion. Features are:

  • Books have printer-friendly versions (Jim will be happy)

I think that this will help.

You folks are extraordinary. I appreciate your efforts. Really!

Jim is happy!

Re: documentation

Pierre,

Must we create new login credentials at the new site? I can't seem to log in at that site.

Thanks!

Jim

Re: documentation

Unfortunately you do need a new login. There was no path between the old system (DNN - SQLServer) and the new one (Drupal - mySQL)

Re: documentation

Never mind - I already did.

BTW, that site is not really any faster than this one. I posted a reply to a post by Mark over there and to see what it looked like I clicked on "Preview". One minute and forty five seconds later the preview appeared. Submitting the post from there only took about 5 seconds (still not speedy), but the preview function is broken I think.

One more thing: Apparently a "Subject" is required, even for replies to existing topics. If you don’t input one, the first line of your text becomes the subject, which can look pretty weird. Also, I typed a word with an apostrophe in the first sentence of my reply and in the subject line the word "don't" became "don’t". I think that means that although the text I input is UTF-8, the new site's subject box is converting that to Windows-1252 format, which conflicts with most of the punctuation marks in UTF-8. So expect some funky looking titles there!

Modified By PPL on 11/17/2008 11:36:19 PM)

The new web site is "generally" faster, but at times, it just seems to stop responding for a few minutes. I'll have the hosting company check it. Keep in mind, that this is still on a budget hosting service. But whatever we build here, will be transfered to a more robust server as we're approaching release.

As for the empty replies subject, it is now fixed

The real power of the new web site, is definitely not the forum, but the integration of books, forum, blogs, pop-up glossary, etc. As this is a focused site (unlike say DonationCoder), I think that the forum part will suffice (the New Post page is particularly useful).

I'm working on email notifications and quotes...

Done! but not on the left, but on a navigation page, as the limited width would be a problem

Much better!

IDEA:

would it be possible to have this index at the top of each book page and when you click on a link it brings you to the start of the text - it would save having to use backspace all the time.  (demanding, arent I)
