...Expand All Items and Subs in a Grid?
Modified By J-Mac on 11/15/2008 1:08:42 AM)

I have a database where occasionally the Welcome grid shows the incorrect items, so using the Source bar I select "SQL Notes" as the source and that returns the correct items to that grid. You know, the content from the Wiki?

Well whenever I have to correct that via the Source bar, only three items (I think it's three!) show - just the parents. Neither the "Expand" nor the "Expand All Subs" commands expands all items and sub-items; it only expands one item. Is there a command/menu item that truly expands ALL items and sub-items? Going down through all of them and manually expanding them is tedious.

And, yes, I agree that something is definitely flaky in this database. It is the same one that contained my "Multi-Store shopping list grid -which is pretty large and has hundreds of items - where those items all seemed to "disappear" one day. I had opened that database and the "Welcome" grid was showing ALL items in the database for some reason and I had tried to get back to just the items that should have been there. At the time I knew nothing about the Source bar and so was thoroughly lost. I posted about it here back when it happened. I did manage to get things back to relative normalcy, except for that damn Welcome grid never opening expanded! I believe I have all the data I need in other databases so I'll probably just delete this entire database - I have more than a few databases from trying to learn IQ!

But I want to figure out why I am having this last issue with non-expansion, just so I know!

Thanks!

Jim

PS - I think jsolka and I are in competition to see who can post the most frustrating questions here!

OK, that is an easy one... Ensure Grid > save item state is checked.

To open all items, CTRL+9 (9th level). Close all is CTRL+1

Cool. I couldn’t find that anywhere else.  Thanks!

Maybe this one could somehow be added to the Menu ? Although that dificult seeing as it's really 9 shortcuts!

The shortcuts are (hopefully) all on the shortcuts page but finding shortcuts is always a pain (I find.)

sqlnotes.wikispaces.com/Keyboard+Shortcuts

Jim, or anyone else, if you have any ideas on how the shortcuts could be otherwise presented (as well as the current way) that might make them easier to find, please shout  :-)

The  shortcuts page gives a lot of nice info. I think that for better readability, we should try to sort things alphabetically and nothave a separate section for the "default" section. This makes things confusing.

As for the ctrl-1 to 9, it could be called something like :

"HIERARCHY/OUTLINE, per level collapsing/expanding (gridwide) " : ctrl-1 to 9

"HIERARCHY/OUTLINE, per level collapsing/expanding, (selected item)" : shift-ctrl-1 to 9

Also, instead of having an "item" section, I'd separated shorcuts by panes (items are shown in grids anyways...):

HTML pane.

Grid

Properties pane

etc.
